Official attempt #2 was Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson

I'm pretty sure I picked up Major Pettigrew in a charity shop sometime but looked at a few pages and then decided much the same, and gave it away to a different charity shop instead. Not really through any fault of its own, I just had even less brain for reading then than I do now.
