pedantherThis week at the gaming group, I played Guillotine, 7 Wonders, and King of New York.
Guillotine, though the theme is a bit morbid, is a fun little card game with cheerful cartoon art. I came second, which was partly my own fault for playing a card that ended the final round early without realising it was the final round, thus depriving myself of the use of several valuable cards I'd been intending to use in the next round.
7 Wonders was easier to follow than I remembered it being, and I won, with a combination of military victories and monumental architecture.
King of New York, which I hadn't played before, is the more complicated sequel to King of Tokyo, which I have played before. I think I prefer King of Tokyo, but that might just be because I've won King of Tokyo in the past and I got clobbered playing King of New York. Again it was partly my own fault: early in the game, I took a risk that involved losing nearly half my hit points, hoping it would pay off later, and there never was a later because I spent several rounds on the verge of death before becoming the first monster to be defeated.
It's been several months since I last blogged about the gaming group, but in that time I've only been on one other occasion. (There was a long stretch where I had rehearsals for Boston Marriage on the same day, and since then there have been committee meetings and out-of-town trips and at least one day when I didn't have anything else on but decided I really needed to stay home and recharge instead.) I don't remember everything that happened, and I don't seem to have kept notes, but I do recall that I took my sister along because she was in town and one of the games we played was Ingenious.
