Persuasion is one of my favorite novels, especially for its psychological intricacies, and I was all excited when the adaptation came back to PBS -- until I remembered that the makers had cut out the best, tautest scene of emotional suspense in the entire story, and replaced it with a totally anachronistic passionate kiss in a public street where people were watching.

Bah.

Have you read Tony Hillerman, yet? He's one of my favorites.
