I recently came across this video of a musical number from Jim Henson's first TV show, Sam and Friends. Like most musical numbers from that show, it consists of a group of Muppets miming to a record, in this case a Stan Freberg skit that starts as a straight song then goes farther and farther off the rails.

The remarkable thing about it is how well it works as a Muppet skit. (I guess that says something about where the Muppets get their sense of humour from.)

The Muppets, of course, later did their own completely different take on the same song in the first season of The Muppet Show, but opinions differ on how cheering it is, so instead here's a different musical number from the Show; it's my pick for the single funniest sequence in the series to that point, and has a happy ending for all concerned:

Okay, I had trouble hearing some of the first one. But that second one had me LOLing. Thanks.

I remember, from the documentary "Of muppets and men" Jim Henson talked about how the guest stars helped with the writing of the script. And that makes this particularly funny.
