I really enjoyed the SHIELD finale. I've enjoyed the show all along, so that wasn't really a surprise, but there's no doubt that it's stepped up its game a lot since Winter Soldier came out. It's a shame that a lot of people jumped ship before that point, as whilst the show was slower earlier on, it was doing a lot of necessary world-building, as you say. Ward's unmasking as a fifth columnist wouldn't have worked nearly so well if we hadn't had nearly a full season thinking of him as a good guy, obviously. Plus I guess they had to build up Skye in order to make her true identity mean something next season. I thought that the story of FitzSimmons's growth as agents was good too.

On-going story threads and fun battles aside, my favourite part of the finale was probably the interaction between Fury and Coulson, though! They have great chemistry. It's a shame that has to be such a limited commodity.
