Total word count: 2219

Ship/character breakdown:

No characters appeared more than once, let alone ships.

(Although if we say ship types, then two out of three stories have spaceships in. The third one is Earthbound, but does have a mention of sailing.)

The only story featuring a romantic relationship is "A Step Forward Into the Unknown"; "Old and Young Together" revolves around a relationship, but not a romantic one.

Best/worst title?

I'm quite pleased with both "An Equivocal Kinship", with the "ship" wordplay, and "Old and Young Together", which is both a quotation from the story and a reference to the new angle my remix took.

"A Step Forward Into the Unknown" is one of those titles that got stuck on at the last minute because I couldn't think of anything better.

Best/worst summary?

Best: "There is a story parents on Tatooine tell their children. It’s a good story, with many lessons to offer the thoughtful listener. Like many stories, what you take away from it depends to some extent on what you brought in with you."

The summary for "A Step Forward Into the Unknown" is, as usual for my drabbles, just the first line of the story itself. The summary for "An Equivocal Kinship" is just "Alien shellpeople.", and I'm undecided whether it's good or not.

Best/worst first line?

Best: "'Clint has been telling me,' Diana says, 'that he thinks bringing me here to meet his family is the closest thing you have to taking me home and introducing me to your parents.'"

I don't think the others are bad, just not as good as that one.

Best/worst last line?

Best: "'Wonderful for shouting at people, certainly, but imagine trying to sing through one!'"

Worst: "'Well, then,' says Luke, 'the sooner we get started, the better.'"

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?

About what I thought, maybe a bit less.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?

I would not have thought of attempting Diana/Natasha if the prompt hadn't suggested it, although now that I've started thinking about it I have some ideas about what happened before and after the drabble that I may get down in words at some point.

What's your favourite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.

"An Equivocal Kinship".

Okay, NOW your most popular story.

"A Step Forward Into the Unknown", with 441 hits and 35 kudos at the time I started drafting this entry.

Story most underappreciated by the universe?

I don't think I can claim that for any of them; they've all got kudos and appreciative comments.

Story that could have been better?

I wish I'd been able to come up with something more concrete for the ending of "Old and Young Together"; as it is it's a bit of a handwave.

Sexiest story?

Come on, this is me. "A Step Forward Into the Unknown" is the only one that might possibly be considered as existing somewhere in the vicinity of "sexy".

Saddest story?

"Old and Young Together" has a sad bit in the middle, but even it ends happily.

Most fun?

"An Equivocal Kinship".

Story with single sweetest moment?

That might be for the reader to decide; I attempted a couple of sweet moments, but I'm not sure how well I carried any of them off.

Hardest story to write?

The Drabble Exchange drabble, because I kept having ideas that I couldn't make work in only 100 words.

Easiest/most fun story to write?

"An Equivocal Kinship" pretty much wrote itself once I had the crossover idea. (Well, and once I'd decided to continue my usual dodge of writing a single dialogue scene that summed the idea up instead of the actual whole story.)

Most overdue story?

None of the finished stories were overdue. Don't ask about the unfinished stories.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

This was my first year doing a remix; I've been wanting to give it a try for a while, but I don't have enough finished longfics to qualify for any of the standard remix fests, which tend to require a minimum number of works so your remixer has something to choose from. A rolling remix doesn't have that restriction, though it has challenges of its own. For one thing, I only got to see the work I was remixing, not any of the works further up the chain, and I spent a lot of time worrying about the possibility that I'd coincidentally remix it back into the work it had been remixed from, before I managed to persuade myself that that was vanishingly unlikely.

(As it turned out, the one scene I kept more or less unchanged from the work I was remixing was the one scene that had kept more or less unchanged from the work it was remixing -- but everything surrounding that scene was completely different in each of the three stories.)

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:

I dunno. Something about people from different backgrounds connecting over what they have in common, maybe?

What are your fic writing goals for next year?

Write something.

who claimed to have not written much this year

I would like to state, for the record, that I did not claim not to have written much last year, only that I had not written as much as I had expected, (given my usual rate, and being stuck home etc.,) and that I felt very unhappy about almost all of it. (I feel better now! Writing things people enjoyed for Hetswap seems to have helped immensely.)

Write something.

The important bit really! Good luck with it. :-)
