Dec. 31st, 2019 09:39 pmThis month at gaming group, I played Quadropolis, Space Base: The Emergence of Shy Pluto, and at least one other thing that I forgot to note down and now can't remember.
Also this month, we had the first session of a roleplaying campaign my brother is running, using the Acquisitions, Inc. expansion for D&D. None of us have played recently, so instead of jumping straight into the plot, the first couple of sessions are in-story training exercises to give us a chance to get up to speed on the mechanics and our characters, and hopefully to get our characters working together as a team.
In our first session, we completed two training exercises. The first was a basic low-stakes combat exercise (that old classic, "there's a swarm of rats in the cellar of the tavern"), and went pretty well. The second was a bit more involved, starting with fighting goblins and continuing with looting a couple of chests. The bit with the goblins went okay, but then we hit problems. All of the chests turned out to be booby-trapped, and we don't currently have anybody in the party with any useful roguish talents involving spotting traps, disarming traps, picking locks, etc. Fortunately, because it was a training exercise, the fireball trap was just a shower of golden glitter and a sign on a spring saying FIREBALL (although our cleric, left picking bits of glitter out of her fur, might actually have preferred the real thing).
