Her eyes flashed. "Give me one reason not to kill you here and take my own chances."
There was an obvious answer to that, but Jack wasn't fool enough to give it. Delilah Tod, he figured, would kill him anyway, to see for herself. And then again, every time she lost her temper. Or got bored.
And his charm wouldn't help, seeing as he'd just definitively rebuffed hers. (A moot point, since he'd meant every word. Even -- especially -- the bit about the slime beast.)
"Not while we're still shackled together," he suggested. "If you think I'm a dead weight now..."
