Moving sideways in the world
Mar. 19th, 2009 06:34 amSigned the lease on the new house on Tuesday, and immediately began worrying about what I might have missed during the look-over that I will regret soon and for the rest of my occupation. I had a longish checklist, but it was all "Things I know I want because my current flat doesn't have them", and probably short on "Things I'm taking for granted because my current flat does have them, but I will miss when they're gone".
I shall try to take it as a learning experience.
The actual lease-signing was pleasant, and the property manager seems both friendly and with-it, which are attributes that one does not always find in property managers. During the obligatory walkthrough of the conditions, she paused at "The tenant shall use the premises solely for a dwelling and shall not cause or permit the premises to be used for any other purpose", and gave a number of remarkably specific examples, with a distinct air of speaking from personal experience. (The bit where she said "Please don't [example], because I already have two tenants doing that, and getting them to stop is enough of a hassle as it is" was a bit of a hint.)
(PS. I did nearly write this entry yesterday, but I was tired and decided to go to bed early instead of going online. And now I'm trying to figure out when I started thinking of 9pm as "going to bed early"...)
