pedantherLast night was the Rep Club's monthly social event; we went lawn bowling. The team I was in had a really good bowler (not me), and at one point we were leading 8-nil. Then the other team rallied (come to think, it was about the point that the blind guy decided to sit out the rest of the game), and in the end we only won 11-6.
I didn't do too badly, considering. I improved over the course of the game, to the point where I was managing some pretty good results, and then as the hour grew late I started getting worse again. My last shot of the game was spectacularly terrible, in a way that involved multiple ricochets and probably had something to do with the other team scoring an impressive 4 points for that round.
The social aspect was also successful. (One memorable conversation included a discussion of the difference between the Turing Test and the Chinese Room Experiment, and later became an attempt to figure out what we actually knew about Quantum - beginning with "What was with Schroedinger and cats, anyway?" - that never quite came together before we all got sidetracked into the question of whether China actually exists, since nobody present had ever actually seen it...)
At the end of the game, there were prizes. I got a bottle opener, which was nice. Would be nicer if I had any bottles to open, mind you.
