My own personal rule for WIP memes is that anything I haven't touched in more than three months doesn't count as "in progress" no matter how much I intend to finish it. On that basis, I have four works in progress, of which one is my Yuletide piece, so you get three snippets:

1. "Of course there must have been a co-pilot," he added in a reasonable tone of voice, "but nobody ever knew who he was. Or she."
   
   He thought he heard one of the children go for that last hook, but if so it was drowned out by the voices demanding to know why there must have been a co-pilot. Spark heritage, Theo thought fondly. Tell them something must be so, and the their immediate reaction is 'Says who?'.




2. Mr Satterthwaite was feeling old; which is not at all the same thing as being old, a state with which Mr Satterthwaite had many years of experience.




3. "Being royal is no guarantee of being good or worthy," he said. "Even being an Heir. There is a story told in my family about a prince who ran off the day before he was to be crowned, carrying with him a fortune in jewels and other treasures. He died in a room no larger than this, clinging to a single gold ring, and my grandfather took that."
   
   "Granted that I am not perfect," she said, "what makes you qualified to judge me, jewelry thief's grandson?"
