I've mentioned before now that, being a week behind my friendslist on Doctor Who, I can't always avoid learning things about the upcoming episode that I'd rather have learned by watching the episode. I've mentioned that, in the case of "The Doctor's Wife", none of what I thought I'd learned turned out to be what I expected.

In the case of "The Almost People", I learned one big thing in advance, and it meant exactly what I thought it did.

(Nobody meant to give it away, but constructing a comment that is meaningful to those who've seen an episode without giving away anything to those who haven't yet is sometimes harder than it looks - particularly, perhaps, when it's part two of a two-parter. And the premise of the first episode did rather incline one to speculate in particular directions already.)

The episode contained plenty of other surprises, and I enjoyed it anyway, but I'd still have liked to have had that surprise too.

(And now I'm contemplating whether it might be an idea to actively avoid some or all of the internet entirely until next Saturday, just in case somebody else mentions something I'd rather they hadn't.)

As I understand it, I have to avoid the spoiler people until sometime NEXT FALL, because the ep from last Saturday, the one this, and the last one the week after are part of one story... which won't be concluded until the fall.

It may be over-optimistic, but I'm not too worried about the midseason break, because at least everybody else will be in it too. It's the "I want to blurt out something about the episode I've just seen" people that tend to ambush me, and once the break starts there won't be any more of those until (for me, a week before) the series resumes. There will still be the "I've heard a thing about an episode none of us have seen yet" people, but I'm generally successful at dodging those.

it does happen, alas :( Doctor's Wife was spoiled for me, even if the big surprise was given away so early in the episode
